Sr. Clinical Content Specialist -- Medical Informaticist

OVERVIEW
Medi-Span is a leading provider of integrated data solutions, supplying embedded clinical content within EMR systems to drive clinical decision support for clinicians across the continuum of healthcare. This is a unique opportunity to drive improvements of Medi-Span content and positively improve clinician workflow and patient outcomes on a wide scale.
The role includes ensuring optimal use of medical terminology concepts by clinical decision support databases embedded in electronic medical record systems (EMR/EHRs). For example - drug interaction screening, drug dosing or drug indication systems. The responsibilities include:
Support the needs of clinical decision support products dependent on medical terminology
Develop strategies to improve the content in clinical screening databases to improve alert specificity and sensitivity
Participate in the creation and support of mapping files from new and existing standardized medical vocabularies to proprietary Wolters Kluwer Medical Condition Codes and patient education leaflets. Supported vocabularies include various versions of ICD10, SNOMED CT and various SNOMED CT extensions, RxNorm and LOINC. New code sets may be added as needed. The role will require surveillance for new or updated versions of supported vocabularies plus cross-departmental planning and coordination to support any related changes or updates.
Addressing customer questions related to medical terminology
Resolving terminology issues as they arise
Regular quality assessments to both optimize and improve the consistency of concept mappings across code sets
Collaboration with other teams to generate optimal content and products
Maintenance and creation of process and policy documents related to terminology as needed
The person in this role will be expected to provide clinical leadership, perspective, knowledge and related guidance for various teams in our Indianapolis office. These responsibilities may include:
Provide insights into health care provider workflows and/or clinical medical knowledge as needed
Participate in the development of new or improved clinical decision support systems. This may involve exploring new technologies, such as adoption of machine learning and natural language processing to drive new solutions
Participate in the creation of new platforms to create and modify clinical content
Assess internal workflows and improve processes to drive efficiency, improve quality and facilitate content development

Carry out focused, critical evaluation of scientific, clinical and product literature to create optimal content as needed
Work with other portions of WK Health such as UpToDate and Lexicomp to maintain consistency across our products whenever possible
Location: This role reports to our Indianapolis, IN office location. This search is open to qualified candidates across the U.S. Applicants should be willing to relocate to Indianapolis within a reasonable timeframe after date of hire.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Represents Wolters Kluwer Health Clinical Effectiveness (WKH-CE) in a positive, professional, and customer focused manner. Treats fellow employees and customers in a Fair, Honest, Responsive, and Results-Oriented manner.
Responsible for creating and revising accurate, and country-relevant medical condition concepts and maintaining relationships to standardized external medical vocabularies, consistent with the format and structure of the databases utilizing these concepts. Monitors and maintains consistency with respect to the hierarchal association of these concepts within and among databases.
Submits work for collaborative peer review and responds appropriately to comments and criticisms. As a member of the team, critically, professionally, and thoroughly reviews the work of others to prompt improvements in clarity, accuracy, and accessibility to information across the spectrum of healthcare providers. Identifies and corrects omissions or errors in the data.
Responsible for maintaining the proprietary database content and enriching this content through the incorporation of medical literature, guideline statements and prescribing information discovered by surveillance and literature review. Incorporates unique and enriching international content into database with the objective of making WKH-CE content a global industry leader.
Actively participates in the design and implementation of internal processes for new product development as it relates to data development and maintenance. Provides input for product design from a clinical and informatics perspective. Has responsibility for leading special content development projects and provides content support for product development initiatives. Responds promptly to marketing and sales feedback, when appropriate, to introduce new information and/or concepts into the database.
Actively develops and/or maintains job knowledge via review of the medical and informatics literature, attendance at professional meetings and/or other educational venues. Actively develops and/or maintains clinical expertise with the express purpose of translating this expertise into improving or creating clinically relevant content. Continually develops and refines writing and database skills
Develops and maintains strong relationships with cross-CE colleagues and international contractors, as appropriate. Cultivate and maintain relationships with individuals in specialty areas that can help improve WKH-CE content.
Facilitates the publication process. Maintains a close familiarity with applicable solutions and representations of data on all relevant platforms to help further improve the utility of the content and databases. Maintains an awareness of relational database concepts coupled with logic to facilitate transactional use of data in vendor applications. Provides assistance on referential projects as requested.
Provides a high level of customer service by offering customer and client support on an as needed basis. Responds in a timely and accurate manner to inquiries regarding clinical drug information and/or product data. Participates in conference calls with external customers to clarify clinical content issues or expected data outcomes for new and existing implementations.
Produces timely and accurate reports. Participates in the collection of data regarding updates (source, nature of update, and timing of response/integration) and reliably maintains data in existing workflow tools. Facilitates the documentation and reporting of errors per corporate policy.

Education: Pharmacist (BS or PharmD), Physician's Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or Nurse Informaticist, or equivalent relevant experience
Minimum Experience:
3+ years of clinical practice experience in a hospital, home healthcare, or community/retail setting or equivalent (required)
Clinical/Medical informatics -- significant experience (1-2 years minimum), fellowship or residency training or degree. (required)
Knowledge of and expertise in the use of a standard vocabulary (eg, ICD10, SNOMED, RxNorm, LOINC) (required)
Expertise in understanding of hierarchal relationships of standard vocabularies and medical conditions (strongly preferred)
Advanced clinical practice experience that includes medication prescribing, especially using an EHR system with medication screening (preferred).
Experience in a health care setting with EHR implementation or development (preferred)
Experience or exposure to Agile and software or EHR development (preferred)
Scientific and health care literature analysis experience (strongly preferred)
Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:
Minimum:
Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communications skills (required)
Exhibit ability to work collaboratively with other departments/teams (required)
Computer literacy in Microsoft Word (required), Microsoft Access/Excel (strongly preferred), and SQL (preferred)
Certification related to a standard medical vocabulary (preferred)
Knowledge of relational databases and how to create and run queries to assess data (strongly preferred)
Working knowledge of computerized drug compendia (preferred)
Experience with/knowledge of pharmacy practice-related regulations, standards, and quality initiatives (preferred)
