Description: Job Description
The DBA Sr. Technician leads the design and implementations associated with database administration and management. The Sr. Technician validates current business practices against industry standards, working with vendors to propose enhancements/efficiencies, and setting up performance baselines and operational agreements. Managing software releases, minimizing incident/problem impacts to the enterprise, and implementing new solutions are also responsibilities of the position.
Job Responsibilities
Leads architecture discussions around design, data integration, recoverability and resiliency and leads complex discussions with users on large database designs
Serves as an expert and guides others in the resolution of the most complex incidents and problems
Supervises problem management to ensure root cause is identified and that processes are in place to prevent reoccurrence
Supervises database maintenance
Designs database maintenance and upgrade processes and provides incident/problem management support
Supervises database creation activities of DBA team
Develops processes, procedures and defines metrics to review for capacity management
Identifies research opportunities in alignment with database strategy and define research scope and implementation strategy for new features and functionality
Creates operational agreements with other infrastructure support areas
Works with vendors for product enhancements to modify and implement standards, workarounds and support, providing ample communication with internal and external clients
Leads additional research into technology that provides improved resiliency and recovery for databases
Determines appropriate direction and usage of scripting and programming, author complex scripts, and design, code and implement local facilities to support the DBMS environment
Reviews and approves logical data modeling processes for complex applications database requirements
Analyzes complex queries tuning, statistics, and performance of subsystem, CPU, IO, and memory
Analyzes trending data and provide performance recommendations addressing specific application/system performance issues
Creates goals and guidelines for system-wide performance and infrastructure usage, establishing performance baselines and management of any deviations
Mentors other Database Administrators on complex topics
Designs, writes, and teaches full classes on complex topics; may include Road show and Technology\Development sessions with clients
Job Qualifications
? College degree or equivalent work experience
? 6+ years in database management, testing, scripting, or configuration
? Oracle specific:
o Oracle Shared Environment
o Upgrades / Patching
o Multitenant Architecture
? Linux
? Scripting
? Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)

Database Administration- 5
Has used a variety of data base packages in the successful implementation of systems requiring the use of data bases. Is knowledgeable of the data base packages available throughout the industry. Has contributed to decisions regarding data base direction for the organization. Has experience in complex developments and multiple database systems. Has expert knowledge in database performance characteristics.
Database Capacity Planning- 3
Can perform basic capacity planning analyses of volume metrics and trends for currently existing databases, based on resource utilization and projected business plans. Has awareness of the infrastructure and its configuration in order to validate and provide recommendations with the Capacity Planning team. Is able to direct associates of lower proficiencies on what types of reports to produce and where data can be found. Can obtain meaningful business projections from application, database and business people and can translate these into capacity requirements.
Data Modeling- 4
Demonstrates the uppermost levels of expertise in data modeling. Often takes a lead role in challenging and complex situations. Has demonstrated proficiency in both logical and physical data modeling in applications of the highest degree of complexity. Able to map data models to object models. Proficient in more than one data modeling case tool. Understands how data modeling techniques and approaches are applied in data warehousing projects. Demonstrates a solid understanding of the relationship between conceptual/logical data modeling using the entity/relationship diagram (ERD) method and relational database design.
Database Monitoring and Tuning- 5
Can code scripts in the language of the monitoring tool (e.g., IQL) of high complexity to customize the monitoring process. Researches advanced methods and techniques for DB performance monitoring across platforms. Represents the company in defining requirements to DB monitoring tool vendors. Demonstrates industry leadership in outside professional organizations and forums.
Physical Database Design- 4
Is an organizational expert in physical database design. Has developed, reviewed and approved diagrams and documentation generated during physical modeling to determine the feasibility, effectiveness and efficiency of the physical database design. Has participated in the decision to use particular hardware, operating system platforms, and database software.
Programming- 4
Demonstrates expertise of programming tasks for complex applications. Has played a lead role in the conduct of all of the tasks and activities required to complete the programming phase and participated in the process of fully implementing the system. In terms of structured programming, has used structured code to produce modules of complex logic. Familiar with the basic principles of structured design as applied at the module level and has environmental knowledge of data structure. Is capable of educating others in the use of structured code and has been involved in directing the work of others.
Software Installation and Upgrade- 3
Has the ability to install software using vendor-supplied and company-developed procedures. Demonstrates the ability to use core utility programs in the installation and maintenance of systems. Demonstrates the ability to quickly analyze and resolve problems that may arise during a software installation. Demonstrates the ability to create and use complex utility programs to facilitate software installations.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
